Hello Spring!

Today is the first day of Spring, and to bring it in properly, what better way to say spring like pastels? Pastel pink and blue seem to be a hit this spring that you can see all over the street style of fashion week. But when you can no longer break out those light pink or blue coats, you have to dress a little lighter in warmer parts of the world.

You can't go wrong with a classic sleeveless button up. I seem to be quite the vintage fanatic, so yet again this skirt takes the whole outfit back in time to the days of retro. Sugarhill Boutique is the genius behind this lovely chiffon pleated skirt. It also has a high waist line that is true to it's time. Not shown is the visible gold zipper in the back that just adds twice as much glam to it, (also the reason I brought out gold accents.) You can find this skirt and more here at: http://www.sugarhillboutique.com/ss14/sweetheart-skirt.aspx.

Thinking Of You

Being a huge fan of Old Hollywood, I decided to go with a retro, post World War II look centered around this dress. I loved the beautiful contrast of the navy blue with white polka dots. Pairing a yellow coat and silver heels kept the vintage vibe with a slight modern twist on it. The link to this wonderful dress by Poppy Lux can be found here http://www.poppylux.com/ps14/coco-dress-navy-off-white.aspx. Their website is stocked full of unique, modern, and statement clothing you would find your favorite celebrity wearing.

What really has inspired me is Katy Perry's music video Thinking Of You. If you haven't watched it, it tells a love story of a widow who's husband got killed in action in the war, so she is forced to try to find love again. Between the fashion in the video and the story, it is all very beautiful. Warning: the video may jerk a tear.

Aside from the music video, the Prada SS12 campaign still continues to inspire me to this day. Especially the hair, which I finally figured out how to accomplish on my own. The key to the vintage look is to curl your hair under on both sides, and to do what I did, create one big pin curl on the top. And of course, I had to find myself those signature Prada inspired sunglasses.

Runnin' Wild

As the debut of my new blog, here is a shoot done at an old train station. My title was drawn from the movie Some Like It Hot, starring the one and only Marilyn Monroe. Being an all time fan of hers, I loved her performance of the song Runnin' Wild, where she is performing on a train in a traveling all girls band. The dress featured is from Little Mistress. I have to say, the dress has a great flowy fit to it, and I love the material. It gave off a vintage, 1940's vibe to me, so I went with it and paired an old wool coat and classic hat of the time period.

You can find this dress at Little Mistress' website, with their many other fabulous clothes. I just might have to continue to be a fan of their clothing. The link to the dress is http://www.little-mistress.com/dresses-c101/black-monochrome-print-contrast-tunic-p1295

As for the earrings, if you're anything like me and obsessed with designers, these were Prada inspired. If you're also anything like me and don't feel like paying the high dollar price for them either, there is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing something similar. I paid a total of $6 for them at Image. Shown below is the actual earrings by Prada that I have become infatuated with, which can be found for about $540.
