Bring It Back

Here's my simple Saturday blog post with a simple weekend look. I love incorporating pin-up styles for a day look. You can look classic and vintage with just the use of red lipstick, curled hair, and bright colors.

Featured is a Forever 21 top, H&M pants, vintage Givenchy necklace, plus a gold flower necklace made by me.

Love In The Afternoon

It seems like only yesterday was just the beginning of Summer. The arrival of Fall is arriving as a disappointment for most people who go back to school and who enjoy the warm weather. Although I am starting college soon, I welcome Fall with open arms. I look forward to starting fashion design school, wearing scarves and gloves, and darker colors (which thankfully is 95% of my wardrobe). This is a back to school inspired look to bring back some 1950's-styled class to this world.

Featured in this look is actually one of the first tops I ever made. I love polka dots and the vintage high cut neckline. The cardigan with the silver chain lining is from White House Black Market, a store that understands class and how to incorporate it with mostly just black and white color schemes. The pastel pink skirt is vintage along with the white leather gloves. I got really lucky finding these heels at an antique store. They are vintage Escada that I snagged for 10 dollars.

"Gloves may appear to be an “innocent” article of dress, but they actually have one of the most thought-provoking histories of all garments. In the past, like present day, gloves were worn to protect the hands and as a fashion accessory, but what makes them so special is that they have a long history of being associated with numerous customs, practices, rituals and symbolisms." -HISTORY OF GLOVES AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE

This is an excerpt from a very interesting article on the history of gloves. I believe that we should bring back gloves not only as a helpful piece to keep our hands warm, but as what their other original purposes were. They should once again be a staple in women's wardrobe.

I hope this look inspires someone out there! I have been watching too many old movies lately, so my title was inspired by the film Love In The Afternoon with Audrey Hepburn. It is definitely a must see and will put a smile on your face.

Nothing But A Dress

I may not have short hair or long legs, but I do love recreating photos of my favorite inspirations. This shoot is dedicated to the biggest inspiration in my life for fashion and acting, Marilyn Monroe. While going through old boxes the other day, my mom stumbled upon this 50's lace beauty that we didn't even know we had or why. So the obvious thing to do with it is a full blown photoshoot, right? That is just what we did, thanks to my inspiration behind it, Miss Monroe.

Finally (if you made it this far) here are the shots that motivated me to do this post:

Sadly these were all I could find. If only I knew where to see the rest of her shoot. If someone could give me a link that would be awesome.

That's A Wrap!

If I could name for you some of my top favorite and most inspirational designers, one of them would most definitely be Diane von Furstenberg. She is a great role model for all women out there creating a career based off her passion and making her own path as a very powerful woman. To revolutionize the fashion world by inventing something simple, classy, and that the everyday woman can wear, the wrap dress has become a classic staple thanks to DvF.

For this dress, I wanted to feature pops of leather tones to balance out the mod print of the dress. The bag and earrings are Louis Vuitton, and the heels are Aldo.

Cat eye glasses are a must have for vintage lovers and can complete the whole look.

"Confidence. If you have it, you can make anything look good." ~Diane von Furstenberg

Embellished In Coral

I have a strong passion for feeling glamorous. I'm not a materialistic person, though I love to feel my very best. My favorite way of feeling glamorous is to experiment with different eras. Like my last post, I am very inspired by the roaring 20's.

This dress from Quiz Clothing is one of the most beautiful dresses I have seen. It's so intricately detailed with it's sequined embellishments and it's scalloped hem. The coral color is perfect for the summer. If you are headed to a Gatsby themed party this would be absolutely perfect for you! The link to this beauty is: http://www.quizclothing.co.uk/clothes/00100002841.html.

The secret to finding the perfect jeweled up headpiece is to just simply use a necklace. This pearl headband (really a necklace) is from Charming Charlie, jewelry heaven for fashion lovers.

These shoes were actually given to me by my great grandmother. I am honored to be in possession of almost half of her wardrobe from the 20's of when she used to dance. These shoes were custom made for her in Italy and they are practically in mint condition. She inspires me everyday, especially when it comes to this style.

"I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn't any privacy.”

At last, I finally accomplished my Gatsby inspired post. My gloves and bag are antique along with the pearl headpiece. My dress that looks vintage itself is from H&M. My love for Old Hollywood grows everyday as I find more pieces to work with. I am so inspired by silent films and reading old issues of vogue on http://www.vogue.com/archive. I really recommend signing up for it. You will find issues from every era back to 1892. You can be just as inspired as I am while looking at original pieces and extravagant clothing that used to be worn.

My earrings and roman numeral ring are from Tiffany & Co. and the rest of the jewelry is vintage, besides the James Avery charm bracelet.

My look was inspired by Carey Mulligan and her stunning 20's looks from The Great Gatsby, one of my favorite films that depicts one of the best times in history.

Here are some edits I did to match the era:
